Job Description: Maintenance Technician for Healthcare Facility for Autistic Children
Position Overview
We are looking for an experienced Maintenance Technician to join our healthcare team to provide maintenance support for our facility for autistic children. The ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge of architectural, HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, and general maintenance practices.
Columbia, Maryland home base. Will require travel between Maryland and Virginia centers plus future locations outside of the Washington D.C. metro area.

VERBAL BEGINNINGS Facilities Management department supports work schedule flexibility. To ensure opportunities for staff interaction and facilitate scheduling meetings, VBFM staff are expected to establish and maintain a regular work schedule which complies with VERBAL BEGINNINGS policies. Normal working hours 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM, Monday through Friday. Occasional after-hours or weekend work will be required. On call 24/7 for immediate emergency response. Ability to work flexible schedules as needed.
Responsibilities
Some of the key duties and responsibilities of the Maintenance Technician are:
- Perform high-quality routine maintenance tasks, including preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and maintenance of architectural, HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, and other facility equipment.
- Oversees and assists the facility's safety systems, including fire alarms, sprinkler systems, emergency lighting, and other safety equipment, to ensure their proper functioning.
- Performs carpentry work as necessary to build, install, and repair structures and fixtures using wood and other materials
- Respond to maintenance requests in a timely manner, troubleshooting and resolving issues quickly and efficiently.
- Perform regular Environment of Care (EOC) rounding and regular inspections of the Centers.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, maintenance logs, and equipment inventory.
- Working knowledge of computerized maintenance management software.
- Detailed oriented data entry into the computerized maintenance and management system.
- Develops estimates for a variety of repairs by determining the cost of projects (or work requests) by analyzing plans, researching costs, and gathering estimates.
- Inventories Facilities Management equipment and EVS supplies as needed and reports conditions and status.
- Attends meetings as needed, or as assigned by supervisory chain.
- Takes calls as assigned for emergencies.
- Performs duty of care in performance of duties and maintains equipment appropriately.
- Communicate effectively with associates, end users, and leadership regarding maintenance schedules, project updates, and Facilities Management activities.
- Coordinate and collaborate with contractors, vendors, landlords and other service providers to ensure deficiencies and work requests and work orders are completed in a timely fashion.
- Ability to schedule work activities through Google calendar ensuring applicable stakeholders are informed and prepared.
- Adheres to department policies, procedures, manufacturer standards, quality standards and safety standards.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in engineering, facilities management, or related field is preferred.
- A minimum of 6-10 years of experience in maintenance of HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, and general maintenance practices in a healthcare setting is required.
- Technical knowledge of various equipment, including HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
- Ability to work independently and troubleshoot technical issues.
- Ability to work in an environment with individuals with autism and related developmental disabilities.
Physical Demands
The Maintenance Technician will be required to perform a variety of physical activities, including standing, walking, lifting, and bending, as well as being able to lift and move up to 50 pounds. Salary Range
USD $36,500.00 - USD $54,100.00 /Hr.
