Summary
The People Operations Specialist works closely with business leaders and area managers to build their people capability, plan, and manage talent and develop approaches that achieve shared organizational objectives. The People Operations Specialist initiates and leads People Operations practices and objectives that provide an employee-oriented, high-performance culture.
Essential Functions
- Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position.
- Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources/people operations, talent management, and employment law.
- Maintains knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks, and ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Handles employment-related inquiries from employees and supervisors referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate member of management.
- Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
- Provides day-to-day performance management guidance to area management (e.g., coaching, counseling, professional development, corrective actions).
- Works closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention.
- Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments. This may include safety training, anti-harassment training, professional licensure, and aptitude exams and certifications.
- Implements and oversees new hire orientation program and conducts thorough onboarding process to ensure optimal new hire experience.
- Involved in employee retention and employee recognition programs.
- Performs required tasks necessary to administer and execute people operations programs?including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; diversity; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the organization.
Work Environment
This position operates in a typical office or hybrid environment.
Physical Demands
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds at times.
Travel Required
Occasional travel may be required between office locations.
Education And Experience
- A bachelor’s degree in human resources/people operations, business administration, or a related field is required.
- Minimum 5 years of human resources/people operations experience required; however related experience will be considered.
- Working knowledge of multiple human resource/people operations disciplines, including compensation practices, organizational design, employee relations, diversity, performance management, and federal and state respective employment laws.
- SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) preferred but not required.
Additional Requirements
- Employees in this role are considered essential workers as part of the critical infrastructure.
- No prior criminal history.
- Ability to utilize technology
- Strong computer skills- Microsoft Office, Microsoft Outlook, Windows, specifically Excel
- Proficient with or the ability to quickly learn payroll management, human resource information system (HRIS), and similar computer applications.
- Ability to operate basic office equipment
