The Benefit Verification Specialist is responsible for ensuring the insurance benefit and eligibility process is completed and updated for patients in a timely and efficient manner. This position obtains benefits and eligibility for treatment, documents findings and communicates with therapists and patient responsible parties.
Position Responsibilities
- Obtains and verifies benefits and eligibility for treatment from insurance companies for new and existing patients.
- Ensures accuracy and completeness of information requested; confirms all supporting documents are present.
- Documents benefits and eligibility for treatment into patients electronic medical records; communicates information to therapists and patient legal guardian.
- Timely and accurate review of diagnosis codes and CPT codes requested for treatment. Must ensure insurance companies will cover requested services with the diagnoses provided.
- Ensure copay, deductible and out of pocket information is clearly documented and communicated to RCM team and patient responsible party.
- Ensure requirement for authorizations, and number of allowable visits is clearly documented and communicated in chart, to therapists, RCM team and to patient responsible party.
- Community Involvement attend at least two APT sponsored community events and two APT internal events.
- Additional projects or duties as assigned.
Requirements
Qualifications & Education: (include, but are not limited to)
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Prior medical office or billing office experience helpful.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Prior electronic medical records (EMR) experience helpful.
- Ability to use discretion in handling confidential information.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
