Gersh Autism Academy is seeking an experienced and dedicated
Speech Therapy Lead to oversee and enhance the speech and language therapy services provided to children ages 5-21. This leadership role will involve collaborating with a team of Speech Language Pathologists and other professionals to ensure the highest quality of therapy interventions, evaluations, and family support. The Speech Therapy Lead will be responsible for program development, staff training, and the implementation of evidence-based practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct speech therapy services.
- Support and mentor therapists within the department
- Oversee therapy documentation and compliance.
- Coordinate services with other departments or school teams.
- Help manage caseload assignments and students' plan of care
- Assisting with department-wide administrative tasks
- Auditing of SOAP notes, progress marks, and annual reviews

Required Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology
- TSSLD certification preferred
- Active and valid license to practice as an SLP in NY state.
- Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) issued by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).
- 5+ years of direct experience as a practicing speech-language pathologist, preferably in a school setting
- Leadership or Supervisory Experience as a SLP is a must
- Experience mentoring, training, or supervising other SLPs, CFs, or support staff (SLPAs).
- Strong Clinical Skills
- Expertise in assessment, treatment planning, and therapy for a wide range of speech, language, and communication disorders.
- Excellent Communication and Organizational Skills
- Additional certifications in areas like AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication), autism, or any other specified area are a plus
- PROMPT Training
Working Conditions
- Location: Onsite at our school in West Hempstead (or Queens), or any other location as needed.
- Must be willing to travel to other locations
- Monday – Friday / 8:00am – 4:30pm
Speech Language Pathologist Physical Requirements
- Must be able to keep students safe from themselves and others and in some cases may need to implement CPI (therapeutic hold) procedures
- Must be able to remove oneself from potentially harmful situations and in some cases be able to lift a child
