💼 About The Role
The
Billing Specialist is responsible for accurately and efficiently managing all aspects of billing and claims submission for HMO insurance plans. This role ensures timely reimbursement for services rendered and maintains compliance with payer-specific guidelines. The specialist works closely with clinical, administrative, and insurance teams to support the financial health of the organization.
🌟 Key Responsibilities
- Submit and track HMO claims for ABA therapy services via electronic and paper methods
- Verify HMO eligibility and benefits for new and existing clients
- Ensure accurate CPT code usage and adherence to insurance policies and ABA billing requirements
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims; prepare and submit appeals as needed
- Post insurance payments and adjustments; reconcile accounts and manage patient balances
- Communicate with insurance carriers, clients, and internal staff regarding billing inquiries
- Stay updated with current HMO plan changes, state regulations, and payer-specific requirements
- Collaborate with the clinical team to ensure documentation supports claim submissions
- Maintain strict confidentiality of client and company financial data
- Assist with monthly reports and audits as needed
🎯Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (required); associate degree in healthcare administration or related field (preferred)
- Minimum 2 years of experience in medical billing, with at least 1 year focused on HMO plans (ABA billing experience strongly preferred)
- Proficient in billing software and electronic health records (EHR); experience with systems such as CentralReach or similar is a plus
- Knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding standards
- Strong understanding of insurance terminology and reimbursement processes
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment
