About The Damar Internship Program
As a
Case Manager Intern, you’ll gain real-world, hands-on experience in the field of human services. Over the course of a
12-week summer internship, you’ll work closely with a team of Qualified Developmental Disability Professional and gain valuable exposure to our unique client population. The Case Manager Intern is responsible for performing a variety of para-professional tasks related to the care of individuals served by Damar. This is more than just an internship — it’s an opportunity for
mentorship, leadership development, and coaching. You’ll not only have the chance to contribute to the success of our clients, but you’ll also be part of a network of other exceptional interns and practicum students, all driven by similar career goals.

Remarkable way you will make a difference as an Intern...
- Effectively responds to and manages crisis situations, which may include client physical aggression, utilizing prescribed verbal intervention or physical management techniques.
- Consistently implements behavior management plans to reduce client’s maladaptive behaviors, promote appropriate social behaviors and maximize human potential of each client served.
- Ensures that all activities, services and programs through Damar are conducted in a manner that is sensitive to and shows respect for the cultural and ethnic diversity for all Damar clients.
- Promotes and assists with the development of appropriate daily living, self-help and social skills.
- Remains awake and engaged at all times – competently supervising and monitoring the clients. Never leaving clients unattended unless permitted for periods of time based on a client’s Individual Support Plan.
- Conducts and supervises recreational and life enrichment activities.
- Understands client’s rights and protects them by promptly reporting any violations.
- Follows physician’s orders to properly administer medication to clients.
- Completes all required documentation on a daily basis, in a professional manner – must be objective, accurate and thorough - to provide consistent client treatment.
- Understands and follows the rules governing client service documentation, including but not limited to medication logs, incident reports, progress notes and all other documentation assigned.
- Will adhere to all policies and procedures as defined in the Employee Handbook and Damar Operational Policies and Procedures Manual.
- Takes pride and ownership in Damar’s facilities and assigned work areas.
- Attends mandatory staff meeting and other meetings as assigned.
- Maintains documentation that is accurate and legible.
- Completes incident reports, including reporting any suspected exploitation, abuse, or neglect of a client.
- Utilizes data collection in relation to driving and tracking outcomes and achieving agency initiatives and goals.
What You Need To Start...
- High school diploma.
- Currently enrolled at least half-time in an accredited college or university.
- Valid Indiana driver’s license and driving record that meets eligibility requirements of Damar’s insurance carrier (for all positions requiring driving).
- Successful completion of pre-employment drug screen and physical.
- Must meet and maintain background screening requirements of program(s) assigned to.
- No felony convictions or other criminal offenses involving a dependent population.
Essential Job Functions
Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight (up to 35lbs); to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; to travel to other locations using various modes of private and commercial transportation; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.
Vision: See in the normal visual range with or without correction.
Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
