We’re seeking a talented, full-time Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) to join our school-based services team in Fredericksburg, VA.
Position Summary:
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is responsible for providing basic nursing care to students, managing student health records, assisting with medication administration, and supporting the overall health and wellness of the student body. The LPN works closely with the school nurse and administration to ensure a safe and healthy school environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Student Health Care:
- Provide routine nursing care and first aid to students.
- Assess and triage student health complaints and injuries.
- Administer prescribed medications as per district policy and physician’s orders.
- Provide emergency care and interventions as needed until further medical assistance arrives.
- Health Monitoring and Record-Keeping:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date student health records, including immunization records, health histories, and medication logs.
- Monitor and assist students with chronic health conditions (e.g., asthma, diabetes, epilepsy).
- Conduct routine health screenings (vision, hearing, scoliosis) and track results.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with the school nurse, counselors, teachers, and administrative staff regarding students’ health needs.
- Communicate with parents/guardians about their child’s health concerns and ensure proper follow-up care.
- Liaise with external healthcare providers and emergency services when necessary.
- Health Education and Promotion:
- Provide basic health education and wellness guidance to students and staff.
- Assist with the development and implementation of health-related policies and programs.
- Participate in the planning and execution of health fairs, vaccination clinics, and health awareness campaigns.
- Compliance and Safety:
- Ensure compliance with state and local regulations regarding student health care, medication administration, and safety.
- Assist with the implementation of Individualized Healthcare Plans (IHPs) for students with special medical needs.
- Maintain the confidentiality of student health information in compliance with HIPAA and FERPA regulations.
- Infection Control and Preventative Care:
- Monitor and promote hygiene and sanitation practices within the school.
- Assist with the identification and management of communicable diseases.
- Support preventative health measures, including vaccinations and health screenings.
Qualifications:
- Current Virginia LPN license in good standing.
- CPR and First Aid certification required.
- Experience working with children or adolescents, preferably in a school setting.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
- Familiarity with HIPAA and FERPA regulations related to student health care.
